Each month, in order to get to know our Centex community better, we are going to highlight an Athlete of the Month. This athlete has exhibited determination, growth, and a great attitude in the gym. They challenge and encourage their teammates on a daily basis and represent CrossFit Centex with pride.
Give a big shout out to our August athlete of the month – Holly Parker. Holly is one of our evening athletes that braves the heat for class. Holly is an incredible mom who will do anything for her boys. She is a huge supporter of our community and is always willing to jump in to help. She has made great strides in Crossfit and recently joined our evening Fortius class. We love Holly and are so glad she is a part of the Wolfpack.
Tell us little bit about you and your family.
I grew up in Merkel, TX, a super small town on I-20 west of Abilene. I graduated from Tarleton State University and moved to Belton in 2006. Belton is now home. I have two boys that are my world. Cash is 11 and going into 5th grade and Chantz is about to be 8 and going into 2nd grade. They are enrolled with Jodi and workout with her twice a week, show steer and play football and basketball. I just recently became the PE teacher at Lakewood Elementary. I also am part owner at Central Texas Auction Services and am a real estate agent.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Spending time with friends, family and of course working out.
What is something we don’t know about you?
I love a good adrenaline rush! Skydiving is on my bucket list.
When did you start crossfit? Why?
I started Crossfit June 2016. I had been wanting to try it for awhile but it wasn’t until I met Jodi that I felt comfortable enough to give it a try.
Do you remember your first wod?
First WOD was Murph at another box and I loved it. First Centex WOD was partnered with Leann and I was hooked after that. 😉
What is your favorite/least favorite thing about crossift?
(movement, wod, etc.)
Favorite is squats and dead lifts. I struggle with anything overhead but I’m coming into it!
How has crossfit and/or Centex affected your life?
I never see myself leaving Centex. It’s 100% my stress reliever. I love the community and I brag to people all the time. They’re a-holes (Fortius 6pm class) that care deeply and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
What advice would you give a newbie?
You’re going to be confused and some movements will be difficult but don’t give up bc its all worth it.
Tell us your most memorable moment/wod/etc. at Centex?
There are so many moments. So many times I felt I couldn’t do something and had the support to prove myself wrong. I can’t pick just one.
Have you met any goals since starting crossfit? What future goals do you have?
I was not a lifter before Crossfit, so every movement was a goal to accomplish. I’m just now at the point of wanting to start setting goals.

When all else fails, I won’t! I actually struggle with it but it stays at the forefront of my mind always.
